The Legend of the Banawe Rice Terraces

In the Philippines, one of the places that tourist visit most of the time is Baguio City. One of the beautiful spots there is the Banawe Rice Terraces (Hagdang-hagdang Palayan). It is known for it's uniqueness and the creativity of the Igorots in making it using their hands. The mountain was turned into a rice field by landscaping it's sides to form a stairs. Igorots helped hand in hand in building the terraces. It is believed that it was not just built. According to some legend, the Banawe Rice Terraces has it's beautiful past. Do you want to know it? Well, referring to a book I've read, it was a symbol of love of two people who fought their love till the end and proved to everybody that with love nothing is impossible to happen. It was also a love story of heaven and earth... One of the mountains in Baguio City, there lived a tribe of Igorots. There king had a daughter named Ban-a. The princess was very beautiful and indeed have a kind heart. Everyone adm

The Effects Of Media and Technology In Today's Value System

People have forgotten the Filipino values and culture because of the presence of media and technology in the world. They treated them as one of the most important things and a part of everyday living. The media is the most influential...to the youth, children and people of all ages. Cellphones, televisions, computers are some of the gadgets made by technology. Almost everybody were already exposed to the modernization of the world. Technology is the application of Science in which we possess everyday to make all our works easier and faster. However, this media and technology affects people way of life and the values we take cared of will also vanish at the same time. And as we live, we also get higher and higher in overcoming our dreams with them. We see them as a good stimulus without thinking the equilibrium of it's effect. I am also one of those people who were thankful of the birth of media and technology. With them, I can do things in my own way. I can cooked my food

On Being Seventeen ,Bright and Unable To Read

One day a substitute teacher picked one of her students to read aloud from the textbook. But instead of reading the text the child sat down and said “No thank you”. The teacher thought that the child was acting smart. So she got mad and told the child to see her after class. Maybe someone like that child was a new thing for some teachers. But it wasn’t new for David. His been through scenes like that all of his life. Even though his seventeen and a junior in high school, he can’t read because he has DYSLEXIA. He can’t read his homework or the newspaper or a menu in a restaurant or even notes from his friends. He can’t even read his own name. He wanted to die. If you’ll ask me about his early years in school, I can’t find the words how bad it really was. Sometimes his teachers would try to be encouraging. When he couldn’t read the words on the board they’d say “Come on David, you know that word”. But only he really didn’t. And it was really embarrassing for him. He felt dumb and that’s

Once When I Was Young

When I was still young, I can always have the things I want. When I need something my parents gave it. But now that I’ve already grown up, everything has change. Life in my younger years is very opposite with my life now. I have to learn things all by myself, I mean to become independent. And also make my own decisions. Sometimes I can’t believe how things happen so fast, it was like yesterday! I can still remember those times my father teaches me how to walk. That’s why sometimes I wonder why he never let me go out with my friends. I’m so happy when my mother gives me some presents after school, back in my childhood. I also can’t forget the feeling when she hugs and kiss me. Now, I never felt that feeling again, maybe I’m too old to kiss by my mother or else the problem was in my part. Things really have changed a lot. And nothing is constant in this world but changes.

Love or Money?

In this modern world, we live with many things surround us. We need food, water, clothing, shelter in order to live .But do you think we also need love or money? People value love as an important thing because without it, living in this world is useless. However, others say, money is the most valuable thing on earth this time, because without it we will not be able to buy all our needs. Love is a thing that we always desire to have. Money is a thing that we really work hard to have it. See the difference? For me, I choose both of them. The two of them are important things in life. Love, emotionally is what we need to interact with others and to do the things successfully. It is responsible for making us work hard in order for us to achieve something. Money practically is what we need to attain all we want to do and what we want to have. Without it, we will not make things successful. Love needs money. However, money needs love…… (Opinion) he he

Conflicts!

It is in nature for some of us to build walls in between a two person who are in conflict. Most of the people value their "pride" so much that they never see the real reason why conflicts are made.In friendship, whenever two friends have their MU(misunderstanding),they never talk to each other and they pretend to be okay(even if they're not).In relationships, especially in the opposite sex, they have their LQ(lover's quarrel) sometimes, that may lead to break-ups.In the family, however, conflicts occur to anyone.Maybe to a mother and a father, or to brothers and sisters. It can make a family broken. For me,conflicts are not made to tear two persons apart or to ruin any relationship but it is a trial to everyone, to make relationship strong and to make them realize how they need the person ;how they long to be with them again. It's a matter of "forgiving" and "accepting". Do you remember the phrase "to forgive is to forget"?It reall

Thank You..!

As a teenager in today’s generation, I admit that sometimes I belong to those people who have forgotten the manners of being grateful. In this kind of environment, dealing with friends, peers, and some people have greatly influence teenager’s lifestyle. We cannot blame ourselves if we can imitate what we say and do from the society we are brought up. When I read the article, I find it interesting for how the writer values the word “Thank you.” I feel like, I waken up in a long deep sleep… Until then, I realize what “Thank you” really means to me and to everybody else. I remember the time when I was still a child, my parents taught me to say “Thank you” when someone gave something or appreciated me. As time goes by, unaware that I have forgotten this simple and important word. I’m old enough to learn this kind of thing but yet, I should. Now, I want to say “Thank you” to the author who wrote the article, to the publisher of the book, the writers and all the staff, and Mrs. De Ocamp

Loving our own nature...

It makes you feel good looking at God’s wonderful creations. How I wish I can visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World. I always dream to travel around the world, but, when I read the article about Mt. Apo, I changed my mind. Now, I want to travel here around Mindanao first… and then to the other wonders of the Philippines. Why dream to go to other places, when in fact we have our own? We should be proud of having the most beautiful Mt. Apo which is also a foreign attraction. Mt. Apo which is located in Davao, is not just an ordinary mountain but also a legendary creation God had made. I really don’t have any idea about Mt. Apo until I read the article. My curiosity of its features, origin and legends lingers my mind, thus I really want to go there… and to experience and discover its beauty by myself.

Making the impossible, possible!

“The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” This line has really great impacts to students like me. It encourages and inspires someone else’s life. I mean, it lightens your path or something I can’t completely described. Maybe, the description of the lines also relies to those who can relate himself/herself in the situation. Others may remember someone by just reading that lines. For me, problems, status, background, disability and other hindrances in life are not good reason enough to give up; instead it’s a useful tool, a steady rock, to reach all your dreams and ambitions. Each one of us has his own purposes that keep us going. We have all our selfish/unselfish motives; buy all the things we want, finished study, have a good work and so many things we want to achieve. Most people on earth are never contented on the things they have, only few fell happy and contented. But people differ, right? Some give up everything they lived for and s

ORPHAN

It was in high school when I started loving and appreciating movies. My favorites are suspense thriller movies especially that involve crimes and investigations. Maybe I love watching this type of movies because I want to be a Forensic Psychologist someday, or maybe I like being one of the actresses on screen. Hehe… The movie I love most is entitled “ORPHAN.” It is about a couple having two siblings; a 12-yr old boy and a 4-yr old special girl who can’t talk and hear. She used only sign language and a hearing aid. The family was almost perfect but the couple was never contented. They went on orphanage to find a child that they will be interested of. Their attention was caught by a beautiful 9-yr old girl, she is talented; she know how to paint and speaks well. She is very formal and she acts and dresses like a lady. The couple was very impressed of her; they decided to take home the young girl. However, their son didn’t like the presence of his new sister. But their daug

Mission Accomplished

Life is said to be plain and simple. It is a matter of living every day. But what really life is? Well, it is a very objective question. It depends on us how we live and look over our lives. For me, life is a special gift from god but it will never work unless we give everything to appreciate life itself. Every one of us has his/her own ambitions. We have dreams, objectives and even goals for our lives. We learn to do everything to make things possible. We never surrender, and instead we aim high and we make ourselves become someone we wish for. But, are we the kind of person we wanted to be? Do we have the life we wanted to have? Try to think of it! In life what we are and what we have will never be the bases... But it's what we do of what we have. Every morning, as I breathe the cold morning breeze and feel the rays of light, I know another bright day would come and then go. But making every day of our life another stepping stone, one step higher and surely we can mak
